Columbus Physical Therapy, P.C. Physical Therapist Steve Line Attends Medical Screening Training

April 10, 2008
COLUMBUS - Steve Line, physical therapist at Columbus Physical Therapy, P.C., attended the Medical Screening for the Physical Therapist Course at the Nebraska Physical Therapist Association Meeting in North Platte, Neb. April 4-5.

The course enhanced a physical therapist’ evaluation abilities to recognize non-mechanical or more serious medical causes of common musculoskeletal problems. The course focused on training a therapist to spot “red flags” or warning signs to more internal complications in patients that would warrant an immediate referral to their physician.

“This knowledge is very important for all physical therapists. It is crucial to the overall health and safety of the patients we treat daily with common ailments such as back pain. These skills will help us determine if an individual’s pain may actually be coming from another internal organ system in their body,” explained Line. “This will help spot whether a person may have a serious medical problem such as aneurysms, cancer, or systemic infections.”

The training identified common patterns of symptoms that would merit an immediate call to a patient’s physician. This evaluation training will be immediately incorporated into Columbus Physical Therapy’s policies on patient evaluation and treatment.

Line is also a Certified Athletic Trainer and the area’s only Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.
