Walktober Fun Slated Oct. 26

COLUMBUS — Columbus Physical Therapy, P.C., East Central Health District, and the Columbus Family YMCA are partnering to bring you Walktober Fun on Sunday, Oct. 26 from 1-4 p.m.

Keeping in line with the national celebration of the physical therapy profession in October, Columbus Physical Therapy, P.C., the Columbus Family YMCA and East Central Health District are working to sponsor Walktober Fun, a day of family fun and fitness.

“Walking is a great low-impact exercise for developing and maintaining cardiovascular and musculoskeletal fitness,” said Steve Line, PT, OCS, and ATC. “As therapists we support the US Surgeon General’s recommendation of 30 minutes of moderate-intensity walking a day in order to reduce your risk of non-insulin dependent diabetes, heart disease, stroke, colon cancer, and osteoporosis.”

According to CEO/Executive Director Corey Briggs, “You can walk anywhere at any time, and, unlike some fitness regimens, your only expense is comfortable clothing and a good pair of shoes. All good habits start with the first time and hopefully Walktober Fun can be your first time to enjoy the benefits of walking.”

“Walktober Fun falls right in line with our PACE program,” said Rebecca Rayman, executive director of the East Central District Health Department. “PACE is a community driven coalition with members from all counties within the East Central District Service area. The purpose of PACE is to reduce chronic diseases by getting community members of all ages moving more every day. The members of PACE want to encourage you to do something for yourself today that will impact your health tomorrow,”

In addition to earning prizes, non-YMCA members who participate in "Walktober Fun" are eligible for a 10% discount on their YMCA Membership. Don't feel like Walking? You can Stroll, Saunter, Meander, Stride, Skip, Jog or Run! Don't walk away from this event! See you Sunday, Oct. 26!
