Aquatic Therapy

Columbus Physical Therapy, P.C., partners with the City of Columbus for its aquatic therapy services. We feel that you are more likely to continue your pool program after discharge if you can continue on your own in a familiar environment. We find that once the habit of scheduled aquatic therapy is developed, it is far easier to maintain. The atmosphere of the Columbus Aquatic Center also allows you to work out in private or to socialize while exercising, based on your needs and wants. We find it is a win-win. We hope you'll agree.

Benefits of our Aquatic Therapy include:

  • Warm water which helps relax and provides a gentle resistance
  • Improved strength, endurance and range of motion
  • Minimized effect of body weight and joint compression on painful joints and sore muscles
  • For ease of entry, the pool is equipped with a special needs ramp and lift

For some patients, aquatic therapy can provide many advantages. Water can make exercise easier because its properties allow development of an exercise regimen that minimizes the weight placed on the spine and risk of injury due to unintended movements during exercises.

Aquatic Therapy can benefit those with:

  • Sore Muscles
  • Aching Back
  • Neck & Shoulder Pain
  • Whiplash
  • Chronic Pain
  • Joint Pain
  • Tendonitis
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Arthritis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Obesity
  • Muscular Dystrophy

For example, if you suffer from osteoporosis in the neck and shoulder, you could practice arm circles or shoulder rolls in the water to improve your range of motion and strength. Because the water provides both mild resistance and support through bouyancy, you would most likely not experience the pain caused when a tired arm drops suddenly, as it can do at the end of land-based exercises.
